Angell's Six Not Enough for Presidents vs. John Carroll

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Washington & Jefferson's Tim Angell scored six goals, but John Carroll still managed to pull out a 12-9 victory on Saturday afternoon at Alexandre Stadium.

The Blue Streaks (4-1) scored the first three goals and never trailed. Three JCU players (Stephen Leous, Gary Anile, Declan O'Grady) netted hat tricks during the victory.

Anile, Leous and Jackson Twomey scored in the first seven minutes to give John Carroll a 3-0 advantage. Angell scored his first goal off a pass from John Bursch at the 3:37 mark, but O'Grady (2:19, 1st) and Leous (13:30, 2nd) followed with goals for a 5-1 lead.

W&J narrowed the gap in half on goals by Casey Smallwood and Zachary Fredricks; however, Keegan Flinter and Leous fired in goals 11 seconds apart in the final minute and the Blue Streaks led 7-3 at halftime.

Angell found the back of the net four times in the third quarter to bring W&J to within 9-7, but Patrick Carney provided a key goal six seconds before the third period ended to up the lead back to three.

Anile scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter and JCU cruised to its fourth win. The Blue Streaks outshot the Presidents (3-2) 40-26 and controlled the game with 18 of 24 faceoff wins.

Casey Smallwood added two goals for the Presidents, while Bursch delivered four assists. Conor Crowe turned back 15 shots in the setback.

W&J hosts Franciscan Tuesday night at 6:00 pm at Alexandre Stadium.
