Centenary Outgunned by Pswego State

SCRANTON, Pa. - Oswego State outshot Centenary 46-25 and handed the Cyclones a 9-3 men's lacrosse defeat Saturday night on the campus of Marywood University.

Torry Whitcher netted four goals for the Lakers (2-1) and Nick Giampaolo added three scores.

Junior midfielder Joshua Caven (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) led the Cyclones with a pair of tallies, while sophomore attacker Anthony Biango (Highland Lakes, N.J./Vernon Township) scored once and added an assist.

Oswego recorded the first three goals of the game before Caven fired home a tally to get the Cyclones on the board with 1:35 to go in the first quarter. Biango found the back of the net with just one second remaining in the opening stanza to make the score 3-2.

The Lakers led 6-2 midway through the third period, but Caven's man-up goal brought Centenary within three. However, the Cyclones were held off the scoreboard for the rest of the night behind the efforts of Laker netminder Wyatt Russo, who stopped nine shots.

Centenary sophomore goalkeeper Kevin Switzer (Hillsdale, N.J./Pasack Valley) made seven saves and scooped up six ground balls in 30 minutes of action, while classmate Alex Malecki (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) blocked eight shots.

Oswego collected 42 ground balls, compared to 29 for the Cyclones, and won 12 of 16 face offs.

Centenary looks to bounce back on Wednesday when it hits the road for the first time this season at Richard Stockton (7:00 pm).
