No. 1 Le Moyne Sprints Past American International

Springfield, Mass. Juniors Joe Corapi (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) and Kevin Kelly (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) each recorded five points to lead top-ranked Le Moyne team to an 11-1 win over American International on Sunday afternoon at Abdow Field.

The Dolphins got on the scoreboard first with an unassisted goal by senior midfielder/face-off specialist Kam Bumpus (Marshfield, Mass./Needham/Bridgton Academy) with 11:59 remaining in the first quarter.

American International evened the score at one apiece with 1:33 left on an unassisted goal by John Magliano.

Le Moyne regained the lead just 36 seconds later as Corapi finished off a feed from Bumpus.

The Dolphins scored three times in the second quarter to take a 5-1 lead at halftime. Following a slashing penalty on the Yellow Jackets, Corapi scored at the 11:52 mark, just eight seconds into the extra-man situation. After two slashing penalties on American International with 3:45 to go, Corapi fed senior midfielder Andrew Chadderdon (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) for his fifth goal with 2:47 remaining. Bumpus completed the scoring in the half with his fourth goal with 1:03 left after taking a pass from Kelly.

Le Moyne added three goals from three different players in the third quarter. In an extra-man situation, freshman attackman Alex O'Brien (Hanson, Mass./Boston College High) picked up a rebound of a saved shot and dumped it into the back of the net for his seventh goal of the season with 11:31 remaining. After causing a turnover, Kelly fed senior attackman Chris Button (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) for his 10th goal of the year at the 2:48 mark. Corapi netted his third goal of the day with 54 seconds remaining in the quarter off a pass from Chadderdon.

Kelly scored all three of Le Moyne's goals in the fourth quarter to close out the victory. He tallied his first just four seconds into a man-up opportunity after receiving a pass from Chadderdon with 9:41 to play. Only 56 seconds later, Kelly finished off a feed from sophomore midfielder Nick Kline (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) for the 10th goal of the contest by the Dolphins. Kelly recorded his team-best 13th goal of the year with 2:10 remaining after receiving a pass from Corapi, who was credited with his team-high sixth assist of the campaign.

Junior goalkeeper Ben Romagnoli (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia/Syracuse) improved to 5-0 between the pipes after saving four of the five shots he faced in 30 minutes of action. Perry Booker took the loss for the Yellow Jackets despite making 16 saves.

Le Moyne (5-0, 3-0 NE-10), which held the Yellow Jackets to less than two goals for the eighth time in 16 all-time match-ups (first time since 2008), returns to action on Saturday against ninth-ranked Dowling College at the Carrier Dome at 3:00 p.m.
