Oberlin Tops Lourdes as Phister Scores Five

Lorain, Ohio Oberlin scored early and often as they cruised by Lourdes 22-6 on Monday afternoon at the All Pro Athletic Center.

A total of 14 different Yeowomen scored at least one goal in the game. First-year Sara Phister led the attack with five scores to go along with six draw controls. Sophomore Suzanna Doak also registered a hat trick to run her season goal total to five.

Bronwen Schumacher and Marissa Maxfield also netted two scores each in the Oberlin victory.

Oberlin scored five goals in the first 4:30 and would go to post 12 more first-half goals to take a 17-3 lead into the intermission.

The Yeowomen would tack on five goals in the second half. Seniors Hannah Christiansen and Sarah Andrews each scored their first goals of the season in the second session.

Oberlin controlled the run of play throughout the game, out-shooting the Gray Wolves 30-7 while winning 21 of the game's 27 draw controls.

First-years Michaela Puterbaugh, Morgan Daruwala and Sloane Garelick and Maxfield each scored their first collegiate goals in the win. Sophomore Emily Kipling also opened her colligate scoring account.

Oberlin improved to 2-0 with the win, while Lourdes dropped to 0-4.

The Yeowomen are back in action on Wednesday night at Adrian College. The opening draw is set for 7:00 p.m.

Lourdes began its eight game road trip on Monday afternoon, dropping a 22-6 game to Oberlin at All-Pro Athletic Center in Lorain, Ohio.

Katie Cerveny (Erie, Mich./Mason Senior H.S.) scored three times for the Gray Wolves while Faith Fisher (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) added two more tallies. Allison Mazey (Barberton, Ohio/Barberton H.S.) added her first collegiate goal for the Gray Wolves as well.

Oberlin jumped on top quickly, scoring five times in the first 3:23 before Fisher put the Gray Wolves on the scoreboard with a free position goal. Cerveny also scored a first half free position goal while Fisher tallied an unassisted marker at the 6:43 mark of the opening stanza. The Yeowomen took a 17-3 lead into halftime.

After break Oberlin scored the first three goals of the second half before Lourdes tallied three of their own. Mazey scored her first collegiate goal at the 14:24 mark before Cerveny added two late tallies of her own.

Oberlin (2-0) outshot Lourdes 30-7 for the afternoon as Amanda Kaczmarek (Berkey, Ohio/Evergreen H.S.) made five saves for the Gray Wolves between the posts.

Lourdes (0-4) will return to the field on Wednesday afternoon, traveling to North Canton, Ohio to face Walsh. Opening draw is set for 7:00 p.m.
