St. Andrews Upsets 6th-Ranked Coast Guard, Falls to FGCU

Palm Beach, Fla.- The St. Andrews University men's lacrosse team recorded their biggest win of the season by far on Sunday as they toppled 6th ranked Coast Guard Academy (Conn.) 17-12 in 100 degree temperatures down in South Florida at the Sailfish Shootout.

It is also the highest ranked team St. Andrews has ever beaten in their 2 year history playing in the MCLA.

The Knights have now won two out of their last three games to improve their record to 2-4 overall and will finish their Florida road trip on Wednesday afternoon at #14 Palm Beach Atlantic University at 3:00 pm.

Leading the Knights today was sophomore Bryson Palmer (SO, Simpsonville, SC) with 4 goals while senior leader Chris Michela (SR, Vienna, VA) had the biggest game with 3 goals and 4 assists for 7 total points. Also having a big day was sophomore attack Jason Wilson (SO, Hershey, PA) who scored 3 goals and had one assist. Others scoring multiple goals were sophomore Cha'Sed Miller (SO, Lexington, KY) and freshman Nick Foster (FR, Plantation, FL) with two each while Miller, Nolan Gilmour (SO, Portland, OR), and Connor Cather (SO, Poulsbo, WA) had two assists apiece. Troy Richardson (FR, Baltimore, MD) also scored a goal and had an assist for the Knights.

Vinny D'Abbraccio (SO, Plantation, FL) also had a big game with 7 ground balls and winning the majority of the faceoffs while goalie Will Chiasson (JR, Victoria, BC, Canada) made 19 saves.

Men's Lacrosse Drop First Game on Florida Road Trip

Fort Myers, Fla.- The St. Andrews University men's lacrosse team lost their first game on their spring break Florida road trip on Friday evening as they fell 11-6 to 15th ranked non-conference foe Florida Gulf Coast.

FGCU (4-1) jumped out to a 7-3 lead at halftime over the Knights and would extend their lead to 9-3 into the fourth quarter before St. Andrews would rally for three goals in the fourth as FGCU began to tire on defense but it was not enough in the end.

Midfielder Chris Michela (SR, Vienna, VA) led the Knights with 2 goals and three ground balls while sophomore attack Jason Wilson (SO, Hershey, PA) had a goal and two assists. Also scoring for SAU was Bryson Palmer (SO, Simpsonville, SC), Nolan Gilmour (SO, Portland, OR), and Cha'Sed Miller (SO, Lexington, KY). Defender Dalton Steed (SR, Miami, FL) also had three ground balls for the Knights.

Goalie Will Chiasson (JR, Victoria, BC, Canada) played well making 15 saves on 26 shots (57.7 %) as FGCU only outshot the Knights 28-25.

St. Andrews, now 1-4, will next be in action on Sunday at 3:00 pm against the U.S. Coast Guard Academy down in Palm Beach, FL.
