LVC Uses Third-Period Run to Trump FDU

MADISON, N.J. - Lebanon Valley used a six-goal run in the third period to take control and never looked back in a 10-6 victory over FDU-Florham on Tuesday evening.

Following a defensive opening half that featured just two goals and headed into the locker room in a 1-1 stalemate, FDU came out in the second and scored three of the first four goals to take a 4-2 lead at the 8:18 mark in the third.

However, that sparked the Valley as a marker from senior Alex Beard set off a string of six-straight goals to open the game up with an 8-4 lead after the decisive third quarter. Senior Malik Pedroso scored two along with one each from seniors Matt Roupe and Jordan Mayr, and one from junior Matt Lubawski.

The Devils ended the run with a two-goal spurt of their own to open the fourth quarter, but a marker from senior Scott Travers ended that momentum. Pedroso added his fourth with a minute remaining and the Valley closed out the final quarter defensively for the 10-6 victory.

Pedroso led the attack with four goals and two assists for six points on the day, while Mayr added two scores for the Valley. Senior Ryan Lanigan was excellent defensively with five caused turnovers.

Between the pipes, senior Mike Moll picked up his second win, making 13 saves in the contest, while FDU's George Beck was impressive with 16 saves, suffering the loss.

The Dutchmen held a 48-37 advantage in shots in the contest and converted on four of their seven extra-man opportunities. Ground balls were 36-35 in favor of LVC and the Blue and White also controlled the faceoff x, winning 11 of 19 draws.

Next up for the Valley is trip to Scranton, Pa. to take on Marywood on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
