Oberlin Finishes Strong to Down Trine

University Heights, Ohio Oberlin scored three goals in the fourth quarter to get past Trine 8-5 on Tuesday night at Don Shula Stadium on at the campus of John Carroll.

Oberlin led by three goals at the half, but the Thunder rallied to tie the score heading into the fourth quarter. However, sophomore Nick Lobley would add the game-winning goal with 12:07 left to play before John Firestone and Matthew Fox each added an insurance tally.

Lobley finished the game with three goals for his third hat trick of the season. Fifth-year senior Connor Jackson netted two goals and matched Alex Wagman with two assists on the night.

The Thunder struck first just 2:30 into the game, but the Yeomen would get even on Lobley's ninth score of the year at the 7:26 mark of the first quarter. A little over a minute later, Trine was charged with a three-minute non-releasable penalty, but Oberlin was unable to capitalize. However, Jackson would net his 10th goal of the season to give the Yeomen a 2-1 cushion after one period.

In the second quarter a quick flip from Wagman to a streaking Lobley gave the Yeomen a 3-1 lead. Wagman would later get into the scoring act himself, cashing in his 10th goal of the season with the help of an Eric Hager assist to give the Yeomen a 4-1 lead at the break.

Oberlin came out stagnant in the third quarter as the Thunder scored two goals within the first four minutes of the frame to get right back within one at 4-3. As the period wore on, the Yeomen were finally able to get back into rhythm as Jackson sent home his second goal of the day with the help of Lobley at the 3:51 mark. However, Trine would answer back with a pair of goals in the final 1:12 of the period to enter the fourth quarter tied at five.

Oberlin, which improved to 4-1 on the young season, had a 40-21 edge in shots and won the ground-ball battle 33-29. The Yeomen also did a great job in transition, as they were successful on 20 of 23 clear attempts.

The Yeomen are now off until March 19 when they travel to Adrian for a 7:00 p.m. tilt.
