No. 18 Bowdoin Jumps to Early Lead, Cruises by Endicott

BEVERLY, Mass. - Seniors Betsy Sachs and Jordan Smith scored five goals each as Bowdoin jumped to an early lead and cruised to a 15-5 win over Endicott on Tuesday evening.

The Polar Bears (2-2) are ranked 18th in the latest Division III national poll. Sachs also finished with an assist and three draw controls while Smith added two ground balls in addition to her goal output. Lindsay Picard and Megan O'Connor had two goals each. Sarah Freeman finished with three ground balls and four caused turnovers.

Ellie Clayman led the Gulls (2-1) with three goals in their first loss of the season.

After a tightly-played opening ten minutes, Bowdoin rolled off eight goals over the final 16:13 of the opening period to take a commanding 9-2 lead at intermission. Sachs scored all five of her goals in the run and assisted on another.

Endicott got one back just 1:33 into the second half, but Bowdoin again replied with a huge run. Six-straight goals from the Polar Bears, sparked by three from Smith, put the contest out of reach at 15-3. Clayman scored twice in the final 32 seconds to make it a 15-5 final.

Isabel Sippel finished with nine saves in the win. Ryan Socolow made five stops for Endicott. Bowdoin held a 25-19 edge in shots and converted on 4-5 free position attempts. The Polar Bears also forced 18 Endicott turnovers in the win.

Bowdoin will host NESCAC opponent Hamilton in Brunswick on the Saturday at noon.
