University of DC Wins ECC Contest over Dominican

Washington, D.C. (3/15/14) Dominican fell in East Coast Conference (ECC) action to host University of the District of Columbia, 11-6, this afternoon in a game played at Georgetown Field.

With the loss, Dominican falls to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

The Chargers tied the game at 1-1 with 7:45 remainig in the first quarter when senior Thomas Dertinger (Nanuet, N.Y.) scored his seventh goal of the season off the assist from Theodore Wright (Copiague, N.Y.).

Trailing 3-1 in the second quarter, the Chargers score back-to-back goals, one by midfielder Sean McGregor (Bloomingburg, N.Y.) and the other from Tanner Olsen (Chilliwack, Canada) to tie the score at 3-3 with 12:29 left in the first half. A Firebird goal gave them a 4-3 advantage a the break.

A UDC goal began the third quarter scoring, but DC charged back with another 2-0 run as McGregor netted his second goal of the game off the pass from Olsen and Wright followed with his second goal of the game with a little over five minutes left to play in the third quarter to tie the score at 5-5.

A man up goal by UDC regained the 6-5 lead at he end of three quarters of play. The Firebirds continued their scorinng run with the first five goals of the final quarter to pull away 11-5. The Chargers scored the final goal of the contest as McGregor completed the hat trick with his third goal with 2:37 left to play for the final 11-6 score.

McGregor led the Charger offense with three goals on the afternoon.

Goalie Matthew Quinones (Nanuet, N.Y.) made 11 saves in 59:09 minutes of actio, while Carlos Villaman (Montgomery, N.Y.) played the final 51 seconds.

Dominican is back in action on Wednesday as the travel to Post University.
