Consistency Carries Cazenovia by Alvernia

Haverford, Pa. (Mar. 15, 2014) - Cazenovia (3-0) scored at least three goals in each of the four quarters in a 13-10 win over Alvernia (1-5) Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Sabol Field on the campus of The Haverford School.

The Wildcats scored the first goal of the game just two minutes after the opening faceoff and Alvernia answered with a goal from senior Colin Gallagher (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) to knot the score at 1-1. Cazenovia, which won all six faceoffs in the first, scored three straight to close the quarter and take a 4-1 lead after the first 15 minutes.

Junior Jared Toll (St. Catherines, Ontario/Lewisburg Area) scored the opening goal of the second quarter and after two straight from the Wildcast, the teams traded goals with Toll netting the final goal of the half at the horn. The Crusaders whislted a shot wide with 2.4 seconds left in the half and on the restart from the endline Toll tried to throw a pass over the net into the mix out front. The pass deflected off the back of the netting on the Cazenovia goalie's stick and carromed into the net just before the half.

The Wildcats took a 7-4 lead into the break.

Cazenovia held a 3-2 advantage in goals in the third to push its lead to 10-6, and the Crusaders stormed back with the first three goals of the fourth quarter to close the gap to one, 10-9. Gallagher assisted on a goal from Thomas Warwick (Newark, Del./Pencader Charter), then ripped in his fourth score of the game, and Toll completed the run.

Cazenovia scored off the ensuing faceoff then added two more for a comfortable 13-9 lead with five minutes to play. Rick Reid (Drexel Hill, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) closed the scoring on a goal with better than two minutes to go.

Brandon Weaver (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin) made 10 saves in net for the Crusaders.

Alvernia continues the season Wednesday at Bryn Athyn.
