Millersville Tops Shippensburg to Earn Playoff Berth

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Anna Marmer (Pottstown, PA/Pottsgrove) and Joann Caminiti (North Wales, PA/North Penn) scored three goals apiece to lead Millersville to an 11-7 victory over Shippensburg in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) women's lacrosse action on Thursday.

With the win, the Marauders (7-9, 6-5 PSAC) secured their first PSAC playoff berth since 2001. The semifinals will take place on Tuesday at Lock Haven and West Chester, who have secured the top two spots. Seeding will be determined by the outcomes of Saturday's contests.

Cristin Marron led the Red Raiders (6-7, 4-6 PSAC) with a hat trick of her own.

Tied at 3-all with 10 minutes remaining in the opening half of a physical game that saw six yellow cards, Shippensburg's leading scorer Kim Hudicka was hit with her second card of the day and forced to the sideline.

Millersville took advantage, rattling off three goals in the final 9:27 of the half to take a 6-3 advantage into the intermission.

Liz Richmond (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown) started the flurry, finishing a solo run for her second marker of the day.

Amy Longenecker (West Chester, PA/Henderson) staked the Marauders' to their first two-goal led, finding the back of the net with 6:07 remaining in the first half.

Caminiti closed the first half scoring with a second-chance goal 1 minute, 21 seconds later.

Eight minutes on the other side of halftime, Caminiti stretched the lead to 7-3, finishing a Lauren Ward (Springfield, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) feed.

Allie Rutland and Kristen Crutchfield scored two minutes apart to close the gap to 7-5 and force a Millersville timeout.

Midway through the second stanza, Marmer converted her first of two free-position goals to re-establish a three-goal lead.

After Marron and Caminiti exchanged goals, capping their respective hat tricks, Marmer struck twice in the final 3:13 to make it three players with three goals.

Ashley Mazzie (Barto, PA/Boyertown) opened the scoring at the 25:46 mark, finishing the first of two Laura Chiodo (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown) assists.

Four and a half minutes later, Crutchfield knotted the game at 1-all.

Chiodo put the Marauders back in front before Marron finished a Hannah Sperber assist to draw the Red Raiders even once again.

With 12:34 remaining in the opening half, Kelly Kemper (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air) found a cutting Richmond to give Millersville a 3-2 advantage.

Marron scored off a Beth Long helper 1 minute, 10 seconds later to knot the game at 3-all.

The Marauders close the regular season at No. 6 West Chester on Saturday. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
