No. 1 Le Moyne Wins Overtime Thriller vs. No. 9 Dowling

Syracuse, N.Y. Sophomore Mike Jenkins (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) tallied his fourth goal of the game with 3:01 left in overtime to give top-ranked Le Moyne a dramatic 12-11 victory over ninth-ranked Dowling on Saturday afternoon at the Carrier Dome.

With the Dolphins trailing by a goal, 11-10, in the final seconds of the fourth quarter, junior midfielder Joe Corapi (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) wheeled and fired from 10 yards out to knot the game at 11-apiece with just nine seconds remaining in regulation. The Dolphins won the ensuing faceoff, but were unable to get a shot off before the quarter ended.

Senior midfielder/faceoff specialist Cameron Fedish (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) won the opening faceoff of the overtime period and the Dolphins called timeout with 3:52 left in the extra session. Out of the timeout, Jenkins scored from the crease off a pass from junior attackman Kevin Kelly (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) to give the Dolphins their fifth straight win over the Golden Lions.

Dowling got on the scoreboard first just 42 seconds into the game as Billy Richardson registered an unassisted goal.

The Dolphins responded with four straight goals over a span of 4:12. Jenkins ignited the run by finishing off a feed from Corapi in an extra-man situation with 13:01 left in the quarter. Senior midfielder Andrew Chadderdon (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) gave the Dolphins their first lead of the game with an unassisted goal at the 9:57 mark. Just 62 seconds later, senior midfielder Kam Bumpus (Marshfield, Mass./Needham/Bridgton Academy) found the back of the net for the fifth time this season. Off the ensuing faceoff, Jenkins tallied his second goal of the quarter after receiving a pass from senior attackman Chris Button (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport).

Richardson ended Le Moyne's run with an unassisted goal with 6:27 left, but Corapi netted consecutive goals to put the Dolphins up 6-2. His first goal was unassisted, while he scored the second off a pass from Jenkins.

Dowling scored the first two goals of the second quarter to cut its deficit in half. Tom Cleary posted an unassisted goal with 11:02 left, while Matt Crough scored with 9:59 left.

Button answered with his 11th goal of the season with 8:41 to go off a pass from junior midfielder Chris Breiner (Troy, N.Y./Trinity-Pawling).

The Golden Lions scored a pair of goals in a stretch of 1:14 to pull within 7-6. Jacob Harding scored his third goal of the season with 6:43 remaining off a pass from Dylan Hopkins, who also fed Kevin McElhone for his 13th goal at the 5:29 mark.

Dowling stretched its run to 7-1 with the first three goals of the third quarter to take a 9-7 lead. Richardson recorded the first goal of the quarter with 13:43 left to tie the score, while giving the Golden Lions the lead with 10:48 remaining. Crough extended the lead by finishing off a pass from McElhone at the 9:07 mark.

The Dolphins scored the next two goals to even the score at nine-all. Button pulled the Dolphins within one off a pass from senior midfielder Matt Klepper (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius/Merrimack), while Jenkins tied the score with an unassisted marker with 2:29 to go.

The Golden Lions regained the lead with only four seconds left in the stanza as Crough finished off a feed from Brian White.

White pushed Dowling's lead to 11-9 at the 11:55 mark of the fourth quarter after receiving a pass from Richardson.

The Dolphins cut their deficit in half during a two-man advantage midway through the quarter. Just 10 seconds into the opportunity, Button finished off a feed from Chadderdon with 9:34. The Dolphins won the ensuing faceoff and got off nine shots over a possession that spanned 2:40, but could not net the equalizer.
