Lourdes Downs Franciscan for First Win in Program History

Lourdes posted its first victory in program history on Sunday afternoon, defeating Franciscan 12-9 in a neutral site contest played at the SVC Turf Field in Latrobe, Pa. on the campus of Saint Vincent College.

The Gray Wolves jumped out to an 8-3 lead at halftime and never trailed the entire contest. It took Lourdes just 19 seconds to find the scoreboard as Haley Brown (Bedford, Mich./Bedford H.S.) scored her first collegiate goal, and first of three tallies on the afternoon.

Faith Fisher (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) and Molly Porterfield (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) followed with tallies in the first 5:05 to give the Gray Wolves a 3-0 lead. After the Barons found the back of the net, Jessie Frost (Barberton, Ohio/Barberton H.S.) and Katie Cerveny (Erie, Mich./Mason Senior H.S.) added two more goals to increase the lead to four.

Brown added two more goals and Fisher tallied her second of the day, pushing the lead to 8-2 with 5:49 left before halftime. Franciscan scored the final goal before break, but Allison Mazey (Barberton, Ohio/Barberton H.S.) answered just 38 seconds out of intermission to rebuild the six goal advantage.

Franciscan tried to make a second half comeback, scoring six more times in the stanza, but Fisher capped her five-goal afternoon with two more tallies to insure the victory.

Lourdes outshot Franciscan (1-3) 32-18 on the day and Amanda Kaczmarek (Berkey, Ohio/Evergreen H.S.) made five saves in the cage for the Gray Wolves to earn the win. Fisher led Lourdes with 12 shot attempts while Brown registered seven more.

Tracy McClelland scored three times for the Barons while Savannah Ruhe made 15 saves in the loss.

Lourdes (1-5) will return to action on Tuesday evening, facing Siena Heights in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference game. The opening draw will take place at 7:00 p.m. in Adrian, Mich.
