Pippitt, Kahn Lead UConn Over Fresno State at Oregon

EUGENE, Ore. Connecticut senior midfielders Kacey Pippitt (New Canaan, Conn.) and Lauren Kahn (Nanuet, N.Y.) each scored four goals to push UConn past Fresno State, 19-8, Sunday afternoon at Pape Field.

UConn (4-4) used a balanced attack to win its third straight game, as four players scored multiple goals in the win. Senior midfielder Jordan Christopher (Downingtown, Pa.) opened up the scoring for the Huskies, netting her fifth goal of the season less than two minutes into the game after receiving a great pass from Kahn. Kahn found the back of the net minutes later, scoring her team-leading 14th goal of the season on a free position attempt to give Connecticut a 3-0 lead with 26:18 remaining in the first half.

Christopher added her second goal of the game with just under 12 minutes to go in the first half to join sophomore attacker Carly Palmucci (Herndon, Va.) and Pippitt as the other Husky to score multiple goals in the first 30 minutes. Pippitt paced Connecticut with three first half goals, and UConn took at 9-5 lead into halftime.

Kahn's second goal of the day gave Connecticut a comfortable 10-6 lead out of the break, and Pippitt's fourth goal pushed the UConn lead to 12-6 with 26:38 to go in the game. Other Huskies to score Sunday were sophomore midfielder Katherine Finkelston (Leonardtown, Md.), junior midfielder Karaline Smith (Acton, Mass.), junior attacker Grace Presnick (Suffield, Conn.), sophomore midfielder Madalyn Pimental (Massapequa, N.Y.) freshman midfielder Sarah Smith (Acton, Mass.) and sophomore attacker Alexa Bonnes (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.), who scored her first collegiate goal Sunday.

Fresno State junior attacker Marcy Levatino scored four goals to lead the Bulldogs, who fell to 1-6 with the loss. UConn sophomore goalkeeper Shannon Nee (Lancaster, Pa.) made four saves to earn her fourth win of the season, while Fresno State goalie Lisa Barnaba recorded 12 saves in the loss.

The Huskies return to the turf Saturday when they host Fairfield Saturday at the George J. Sherman-Family Sports Complex in an afternoon contest set for 1:00 p.m.

EUGENE, Ore.-- The Fresno State lacrosse team fell to UConn 19-8 in a nonconference game on Sunday afternoon at Pape Field in Eugene, Ore.

In the first ever match-up of the two teams the Huskies outshot the 'Dogs 40-19 and capitalized on all eight of their free position shots which led them to outscore the Bulldogs for the win.

Marcy Levatino recorded a team-high five points off four goals and one assist against UConn, which marks a season-best for the junior attacker.

Holly Cisneros, Kara Concheck and Anjelica Fuccillo all finished with two points apiece with a goal and an assist each. Freshman Sarah Goetz added one goal for the 'Dogs in the effort.

With a personal-best five draw controls Freshman Kyleigh Westgarth helped Fresno State record 13 total draw controls which was topped by the Huskies 16.

Senior goalkeeper Lisa Barnaba recorded 12 saves in cage off of UConn's 40 shots.

Fresno State (1-7, 0-4 MPSF) returns to Bulldog Stadium to face Columbia on March 19 for its first match-up of the 'Dogs three-game home stand.
