No. 11 Lynchburg Survives Rally by Colorado College

LYNCHBURG, Va. Colorado College staged a dramatic second-half rally to pull to within a goal at No. 11 Lynchburg, but the Tigers ran out of time before they could notch the equalizer, and the Hornets escaped with a 10-9 victory on Sunday afternoon.

Trailing 8-3 after 30 minutes, CC used markers by Jack Kreitler, Will Harris and Austin Davie to cut its deficit to two points midway through the third quarter. Lynchburg answered with tallies by Austin Stewart and Aaron Murphy to take a 10-6 lead with 15 minutes to play.

Needing a quick spark, Kreitler struck for a second time early in the fourth quarter, and then Dylan Davie and Tyler Allen scored 88 seconds apart to pull the Tigers to within a single goal with 5:13 left in the contest. That, however, proved to be the final tally of the game.

Kreiter, who also set up Dylan Davie's man-up goal, led Colorado College with three points. Allen finished with a pair of tallies, while Gray Ritger had a goal and two assists.

Stewart and Murphy, who finished with three goals apiece, struck twice during the second quarter when Lynchburg outscored CC, 6-2, to build a five-goal lead.

The Hornets registered a 41-23 advantage in total shots, which included an 18-13 margin in those on target, and a 40-34 edge in ground balls.

Goaltender Chase Murphy made five of his eight saves during the first quarter.

Tim Jenkins caused a pair of turnovers and grabbed four ground balls for the Tigers.

Andrew Fawkes steered aside four shots for Lynchburg.

Colorado College (3-4) opens a five-game home stand on Wednesday when Babson College visits Washburn Field at 1:00 p.m.
