East Stroudsburg Jumps to Early Lead in Win over Catawba

SALISBURY, SC -- East Stroudsburg took a 6-0 lead after 10 minutes and went on to record a 17-7 victory over host Catawba in women's lacrosse action on Tuesday afternoon at Shuford Stadium. The Warriors stay unbeaten at 5-0, while the Catawba Indians fall to 3-5.

Kaitlynn Wiltraut led East Stroudsburg with four goals and an assist. She opened the scoring for the Warriors just 1:21 into the game. Sarah Studdiford and Jamie Zimmer each had three goals and one assist. Studdiford had two goals a minute apart to put ESU up 3-0 at the 26:31 mark of the opening half.

After the early barrage, Catawba held ESU off the scoreboard the rest of the half. Goals from Alyssa Corace (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac HS) and Meredith Jones (Barnesville, MD/St. John's Catholic HS) cut the margin to 6-2 at the break.

The Warriors began the second half much like the first with Wiltraut, Studdiford and Zimmer putting in goals over the first eight minutes to push the lead to 11-2. The largest margin for ESU was at 16-3.

Corace paced Catawba with three goals. Kaleigh Reidy (Raleigh, NC/Middle Creek HS) collected two goals.

ESU held a 31-20 edge in shots with Catawba winning 16 of the 26 draw controls. The Lady Indians had 26 turnovers to only 14 for the Warriors.

Catawba will travel to Chowan for a non-conference game on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
