Albany Races to 6-0 with Win at William & Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (March 18, 2014) - The William and Mary lacrosse team fell to Albany, 14-3, on a cold and rainy Tuesday afternoon at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field.

Junior Alex Farmakis, sophomore Zoe Boger and freshman Shannon Quinn all scored goals for the Tribe (1-6), while junior Ellen Shaffrey provided an assist. Senior Hannah Clarke also played well defensively and totaled two caused turnovers, two ground balls and two draw controls.

Although Albany (6-0) opened the game with three unanswered goals, the Tribe responded when Farmakis found the back of the cage with 16:14 remaining in the first half. However, the Great Danes closed out the opening stanza with a 3-0 run to lead 6-1 at the intermission.

After trading goals in the first few minutes of the second half, Albany utilized a 4-0 run to build an 11-2 advantage with 15:25 remaining.

While Quinn recorded a goal at the 12:56 mark, the Great Danes outscored the Tribe 3-0 down the stretch en route to earning the victory.

Albany outshot W&M, 27-14, and owned advantages in ground balls (17-14) and draw controls (12-7). Individually, Nichole Eamer (4g, 2a) and Rachel Bowles (4g, 2a) led UA with six points apiece.

The Tribe will return to action when it plays at Richmond on Friday at 6:00 p.m.
