Maguire, Fox Lead Warriors Past Monarchs

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. Junior Casey Maguire (Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Egg Harbor Township) and sophomore Savannah Fox (Port Deposit, Md./Perryville) combined for nine goals and Lycoming scored nine straight goals in the first half to post a 17-11 win over King's on Tuesday afternoon, March 18, at McCarthy Stadium.

It was the Warriors' first win over the Monarchs (0-4 overall) since a 16-2 win in 2010, when second-year head coach Lindsay Reese was an assistant coach with the Warriors. Lycoming improved to 2-4 on the season.

Maguire finished with five goals and an assist and Fox added four goals and an assist to lead the Warriors, as both surpassed five points for the second straight game.

The Warriors took control midway through the first half, with sophomore Savannah Fox (Port Deposit, Md./Perryville) starting the run by breaking a tie at two with 17:30 left. Freshman Elizabeth VanHorn (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) followed with a score at the 14:18 mark and the Warriors stayed aggressive scoring three times in the span of a minute at one point before junior Casey Maguire (Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Egg Harbor Township) capped the run with a goal at the 3:00 mark.

King's closed the half with a pair of goals from Amanda Harney to head into the break down, 11-4. In the second half, the Warriors scored the first goal of the half on a shot from senior Maureen Heagy (Dexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby) on a dish from Maguire before King's scored two goals to make it a six-point game with 26:17 left.

However, the Warriors responded by scoring three of the next four goals, with Fox giving Lycoming a 15-7 lead with 19:00 left and King's was never able to close within five goals again. The Monarchs scored two goals to cut the lead to six with 10:40 left, but Maguire responded with a pair of goals, the last with 1:22 left. King's closed the game with a pair of goals to make up the final margin in the final 82 seconds.

The Warriors started the game with a pair of goals in the first six minutes from Fox, but King's tied the game with a pair of goals in a span of a minute to set up the Warriors' string of nine straight goals.

Heagy and junior Kari Rybak (Boothwyn, Pa./Chichester) each posted two goals and senior Amber Graybill (Pasadena, Md./Pasadena) notched a goal and three assists. Rybak added four draw controls, Graybill caused two turnovers and junior Erin Cieniewicz (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin) posted a goal and five draw controls. Junior Alysha Conley (Camden, Del./Caesar Rodney) posted three ground balls.

Amanda Harney led the Monarchs with four goals, six ground balls and five draw controls and an assist and Catherine McMahon and Jessica Ormrod each posted three scores. Emily Foley scored one goal and added 11 draw controls.

In net, freshman Nicole Gerling (Millstone Township, N.J./Allentown) (2-4) posted five saves to earn the win. Courtney Stefanik (0-4) made 11 saves for the Monarchs.

The Warriors get back on the field on Saturday, March 22, when they host Rutgers-Camden at 2:00 p.m.
