Notre Dame Falls to Gannon on Lombardoni's Late Goal

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio - Stevie Lombardoni's (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) game-winner with 1:23 remaining aided a season-high 11 saves from Margaret Maslyn (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan Academy) as Gannon won its third consecutive match with a 12-11 victory at Notre Dame (Ohio) Wednesday evening.

The two teams traded goals to forge ties at one, two, three and four during the first 14 minutes and nine seconds. Gannon snapped the fourth tie with three consecutive goals from Mallory Delaney (Clarence Center, N.Y./Clarence), Tessa Mitchell (Rush, N.Y./Rush Henrietta) and Kimberly Neagle (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn). The 3-0 run during the span of 15 seconds gave the Lady Knights a 7-4 advantage with 12:23 to play, before eventually heading to halftime with a 7-5 lead.

Gannon ripped off three straight unassisted goals to open the second half. Tallies by Delaney, Lombardoni and Neagle gave the Lady Knights a 10-5 edge 5:03 into the final stanza.

But Notre Dame wasn't about the lay down. The Falcons bounced off the deck with three consecutive goals and six of the next seven to knot the contest at 11 on Allison Merten's only score of the contest at the 3:27 mark.

Maslyn made a huge save after Notre Dame won the ensuing draw, before Lombardoni netted the game-winner unassisted with 83 seconds remaining. Christie Valentine (Friendship, Md./Annapolis Area Christian) secured the next draw control, before thew Lady Knights ran out the remainder of the clock.

Neagle led all scorers with five goals. Lombardoni and Delaney added two scores each. Valentine, Mitchell and Ashley Mozingo (Fallston, Md./Fallston) completed the scoring with one goal apiece.

Valentine and Kelsey Bright (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo) topped the assist chart with two each. Maslyn turned away a season-high 11 shots, including seven during the first half.

Gannon moved over the .500 mark with its third consecutive victory, improving to 3-2. Notre Dame dropped to 2-4. The Lady Knights return to action Saturday, March 22 against Seton Hill at Gannon University Field. The PSAC opener is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
