Maritime Routed by Visiting Wilkes

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (March 19, 2014) - Maritime suffered a loss against Wilkes on Wednesday by the score of 19-3 on Reinhart Field.

Freshman Hannah Pell (Southampton, N.Y./Westhampton Beach) led the Privateers with a pair of goals, one of which came on a free position shot. Sophomore Leanne Lavelle (New Windsor, N.Y./Washingtonville) scored the Privateers only other goal in the contest and led the team with six groundballs.

The Privateers' first goal of the game was scored by Lavelle with 17:08 left in the opening half. It was her eighth of the season. Pell added the only other tally of the half for Maritime with 12:51 remaining in the first. Lavelle's opening goal put an end to six unanswered goals to start up the game for Wilkes.

The first goal of the second half for Maritime was scored by Pell with 9:50 remaining in the contest, her fifth of the season and second of the game. Wilkes added three more goals in the second half putting the total at 19 for the game.

For Wilkes, junior Carley Smith, sophomore Tori Kerr, and senior Gabby Ford all tied for the team lead with four goals each during the contest. Ford also led the team in assists with five, giving her a game-high nine total points on the contest.

In goal for the Privateers, Meghin Paczkowski (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) took the loss on the night putting her overall record at 1-3. She made nine saves on the contest. For the Colonels, Morgan Galuzzo got the win making her no 5-0 on the season. She totaled two saves on the game.

Maritime takes on Mount St. Vincent on Saturday, March 22 at 1:00 p.m. on Reinhart Field for the first conference match-up of the year for the Privateers. Wilkes goes on the road for a match-up with Cedar Crest on Saturday, March 22 at 1:00 p.m.
