Mount Saint Mary Sails by Manhattanville

NEWBURGH, N.Y. Led by Danielle Krupka with a game-high five points, Mount Saint Mary had 11 different players pick up at least one goal as the Knights posted a 20-4 victory over Manhattanville in a non-conference match-up on Thursday night at Kaplan Field.

The Valiants struggled to defend the Knights' well-balanced attack, which featured seven players with multiple goals. In addition to Krupka's three goals and two assists, Erica Massmann added three goals and one helper while Katie Gattoni had three tallies of her own for Mount Saint Mary (1-3). Jen Gries led all players with three assists to go with one goal of her own as well for the home team

For a Manhattanville (0-3) offense that was missing senior Casandra Honovich (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas), junior Mallory Bakst (Morganville, N.J./Marlboro) was one of the only offensive threats, as the midfielder netted a season-best three goals and controlled a team-best four draws. Freshman Sarah Dalsey (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) also scored for the Valiants and picked up a team-leading three ground balls.

The Valiants were outshot 40-16 on the evening, while the Knights also posted a 17-9 edge in draw controls. Junior Kirsten Shaughnessy (Le Center, Minn./LeSueur-Henderson St. Peter) suffered the loss in goal, making eight saves and ceding 15 goals in 44:30 of action before sophomore Caitlin Sosa (New York, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) came on for the final 15:30, in which she made two saves on seven shots.

Manhattanville will return to action on Saturday, when the Valiants travel back to Massachusetts to take on Curry beginning at 5:00 p.m.
