Kutztown Defeated in PSAC Opener at East Stroudsburg

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. -- Kutztown kicked off conference play Saturday afternoon in the PSAC, but suffered a 14-3 setback to East Stroudsburg from its home field.

Kutztown (2-3, 0-1 PSAC) was riding a two-game winning streak from its spring break trip down south this week, but could not handle a tough East Stroudsburg (6-0, 1-0 PSAC) squad that has yet to be taken down this season.

The first half of play was all ESU, with the home team netting two goals in the first minute. The Warriors continued with the heavy offensive pressure and scored 10 goals in the first 30 minutes of play, including a hat-trick from Annastasia Porpora. Two of the scores came from a man-advantage due to Kutztown yellow cards.

After the break, Kutztown knotted the first two goals of the second half. Sophomore Taylor Sandin (Freehold, NJ/Colts Neck) caused ESU's keeper to cough it up and threw it into the back of the net. Fellow sophomore Brielle Dickey (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) knocked in a free-position goal and with 15:08 left to play, junior Taylor Stone (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) converted a free-position shot into KU's final tally of the game.

JoAnn McLaughlin (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape) recorded 12 saves in the first 52:30 and Abby Cox (York, PA/West York) finished up the game with three stops.

Sandin secured five of the team's seven draw controls and Krystine Beodeker (Dingmans Ferry, PA/Delaware Valley) led the squad with two caused turnovers.

For the Warriors, Nicole Smith also recorded a hat-trick and goalkeeper Jessica Maxwell is credited the win with 18 saves and three goals-against.

Kutztown will commence a three-game home stretch on Tuesday, March 25 against West Chester University. The game is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on Keystone Field.
