Jones Duo Nets Half the Goals as Catawba Tops Chowan

MURFREESBORO, NC -- Catawba got five goals each from Meredith Jones (Barnesville, MD/St. John's Catholic HS) and Ebony Mills (Harrison, ME/Oxford Hills HS/Mount Ida) in cruising to a 16-6 win over host Chowan in women's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Hawks Field. The Catawba Indians improve to 4-5, while the Hawks fall to 2-7.

The Lady Indians led 7-3 at the half and pulled away with four goals to start the second half. Kourtney Jones (Mooresville, NC/Lake Norman HS) scored three of those goals to start the second half which put Catawba up 11-3 with 17:36 remaining. Mills scored three of the final five goals for the Lady Indians.

Meredith Jones got it started quickly for Catawba, notching her first goal just 22 seconds into the contest. Jones added three goals in a 4-0 run that put the Lady Indians ahead 7-2 with just over eight minutes left in the half.

Alyssa Corace (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac HS) had a goal and three assists for Catawba. Bethany Davis (Salisbury, MD/Parkside HS) posted 10 saves in goal for the Lady Indians.

Catawba held a 25-17 edge in shots and won 21 of 24 draw controls.

Charisse Wilcox scored three goals for Chowan. Mackenzie Reid had two goals and an assist.

Catawba travels to Spartanburg, SC, to face Converse on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
