Late Run Falls Just Short for Crusaders at Rosemont

Rosemont, Pa. (Mar. 22, 2014) - A four-goal fourth quarter was not enough for Alvernia (2-6) to catch Rosemont (2-4) as the Ravens held on for a 13-12 win Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.

Trailing 12-8, the Crusaders attacked in the first twominutes of the final quarter, cutting the Raven lead to three on a goal by Rick Reid (Drexel Hill, Pa./Monsignor Bonner). Rosemont scored shortly after, bringing the lead back to four.

Benjamin Manning (Perkiomenville, Pa./Boyertown Area High School) responded by hit back-to-back goals, and Colin Gallagher's (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) goal with 3:33 left in the game brought the Crusaderswithin one. Alvernia took three more shots before the end of the game, however it was unable to convert.

Alvernia and Rosemont exchanged goals to start the game as Jared Toll (St. Catherines, Ontario/Lewisburg Area) scored with 6:09 left in the first quarter to tie the game at 1-all. Rosemont didn't stay there for long, responding with three unanswered goals. The Crusaders finished out strong though as Reid cut the Raven lead to two before the end of the quarter.

Alvernia followed the pace of the first quarter in the second, opening with another exchange of goals. However Rosemont responded, increasing its lead to 9-5 at the half.

Despite Rosemont scoring first in the third quarter, the Crusaders used three unanswered goals to cut the Raven lead down to two. Toll struck first with his second goal of the game, followed by goals from Thomas Warwick (Newark, Del./Pencader Charter) and Mallory Pierre (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia), all a minute apart from each other. Rosemont kept its distance though, scoring two more to end the quarter to take a 12-8 lead.

Alvernia returns home Monday to take on Widener University in Commonwealth Conference action.
