Old Westbury Overpowered by Mount Saint Mary

PATCHOGUE, NY - Old Westbury fell to the Mount Saint Mary Knights, 18-5, at Danzi Stadium in its Skyline Conference opener Saturday evening.

Maria Dischley, Courtney Gallagher, Meaghan Haber and Sara Bey all provided goals for Old Westbury, while Dischley also added four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Jordan Schildt contributed four ground balls and Gallagher followed with three.

However, Mount Saint Mary claimed control of the contest by opening up with a 5-0 run with 13:28 remaining. Dischley scored in her fourth consecutive game to put Old Westbury on the board at 11:38. Haber tallied her fourth goal of the season 7:08 later, and Gallagher closed out the first half scoring with her team-leading 12th goal of the season with 24 seconds remaining. Gallagher's goal extended her scoring streak to a program record seven consecutive games. Old Westbury closed the first half with a 2-1 run over the final 4:30 despite trailing 8-3 at the intermission.

The Knights began the second half much as they started the first, as they rattled off seven unanswered goals during the opening 10:23. Sara Bey scored at 15:21 to stop the Knights' run with her 10th goal of the season.

Dischley scored her second goal of the game with 2:56 remaining to put the final margin at 18-5.

Danielle Krupka led Mount Saint Mary with four goals and one assist while Nicole Palmieri recorded two goals and a game-high eight draw controls.

The Knights controlled 22 ground balls, compared to Old Westbury's 16, in addition to holding the advantage in shots (35-14) and draw controls (17-8).

Old Westbury returns to the field for a non-conference road battle on Thursday (Mar. 27) against the Manhattanville Valiants in Purchase, New York. Start time is slated for 4:00 p.m. from GoValiants.com Field.
