Fighting Camels Use 9-0 Run to Down Saint Joseph's

PHILADELPHIA Leading 3-0 just six minutes into the game, the Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team fell to a 9-0 Campbell run en route to an eventual 11-7 loss to the Fighting Camels on Sunday afternoon at Sweeney Field.

Sophomore attack Emily Bowers (Newtown, Pa./Notre Dame (N.J.)) posted a team-best four-point effort on one goal and three assists while sophomore defender Kelly Phelan (Ellicott City, Md./Mount De Sales Academy) (2G, 1A) and freshman attack Nora McCallion (Narberth, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame de Namur) (2G) also recorded multi-goal games. McCallion also tallied a team-best four draw controls and added three ground balls.

On the defensive end, senior captains Brittany Hanrahan (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn) and Kaitlyn McSwiggan (Allendale, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) combined for eight of the team's 16 caused turnovers and seven of the team's 25 ground balls while sophomore Caroline Hagan (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) added three ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Sophomore goalkeeper Genevieve Giblin (Rockville, Md./Georgetown Visitation Prep (D.C.)) (3-5) made 10 saves in a full-game effort and added a game-high five ground balls to go along with two caused turnovers.

Saint Joseph's returns to action this Wednesday, March 26 when the Hawks play host to Monmouth at 4:00 p.m. on Sweeney Field.

Game Notes: Sophomore attack Emily Bowers (Newtown, Pa./Notre Dame (N.J.)) tallied three assists to tie for seventh with Jenna Martino '09 and Shannon Feite '96 on SJU's all-time list of single-season assists (19)... Bowers has now registered at least one point in 13 consecutive games dating back to April 7 of last season... Senior attacks Abby Ananian (Belmont, Mass./Belmont) and Val Paolucci (Swarthmore, Pa./Springfield) were unavailable for today's game due to injury... Freshman midfielder Becky Daub (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) made her first collegiate start.

PHILADELPHIA, PA. After falling behind 3-0 in the opening six minutes, Campbell used a nine-goal run spanning both halves to push past St. Joseph's, 11-7, on Sunday at Sweeney Field.

Sophomore Loren Day paced the Camels (4-3) with three goals and an assist, while senior goalkeeper Brittany Kincer registered a career-high 16 saves in the cage.

The Hawks (3-5) jumped to a quick 1-0 lead behind a Julia Falcone goal only 29 seconds after the opening draw. St. Joseph's followed with two more scores to take the 3-0 lead with 24:41 remaining in the half.

Sophomore Erica Hitch got the Camels on the board with a goal in the eighth minute, followed four minutes later with a Cloey Henchcliffe free position score, bringing CU within one, 3-2, with 19:09 to go before the break.

Campbell continued the scoring trend, netting five more before intermission to take a 7-3 lead into the locker room. Taelar Errington scored twice in the sprint, while Grace Boyce, Maddy Dolinar, and Loren Day each put in one.

In the first half, Campbell outshot the Hawks 15-11, and each team picked up 10 ground balls. Kincer tallied eight saves in the period.

The Camels wasted no time continuing the run after halftime, as Kaki Armiger converted on an Errington assist 40 seconds into the second. Day tacked on her second goal of the day 46 seconds later to give the Camels their largest lead of the day, 9-3.

Kelly Phelan ended the Campbell run at the 23:23 mark, netting the first St. Joseph's goal in 32 minutes to make the score 9-4.

Hitch gave the Camels their 10th goal in the ninth minute of the half to widen the margin to six again, 10-4.
