High Point Adds 15 Recruits for the 2015 Lacrosse Season

HIGH POINT, N.C. - Head coach Jon Torpey has announced the addition of 15 players to High Point for the 2015 season. The group will join HPU in the fall of 2014 and includes four attackmen, six midfielders, four defensemen and one goalkeeper.

"Our 2014 class features very skilled and extremely athletic student-athletes from all over the United States and Canada," Torpey said. "As a staff we feel this class is filled with hard working and high-character individuals. The bar has been set high both on and off the field by our current student-athletes and we truly believe the class of 2014 will thrive at High Point University. We are very much looking forward to watching these young men finish their high school careers and enter our program in the fall."

Four attackmen will join High Point: Jason Ashwood from Manchester, Md., Peyton Garrett of San Clemente, Calif., Ben McCormack from Loveland, Ohio and T. Moyer from Baltimore, Md.

Ashwood has won three-straight Maryland High School Championships with Hereford High School. He was a first-team All-County selection as a sophomore and junior. Garrett has amassed 145 goals and 94 assists in his first three seasons at San Clemente High School. He is the two-time Offensive MVP in the South Coast League and was a 2013 Under Armour West All-American selection. McCormack attends Cincinnati St. Xavier High School while playing club for Cincy Royals. McCormack led the Royals in points, goals and assists last year. Moyer comes to HPU from the Boys' Latin High School of Maryland where he was honorable mention All-Conference as a sophomore on a team that went 19-1.

The Panthers signed six midfielders: Coleman Adams of Mechanicsville, Va., Brady Brehm from Littleton, Colo., Connor Robinson of New Westminster, British Columbia, Chandler Vanderbeek and Connor Vanderbeek from Warren, N.J. and Tyler Vogrig of Vancouver, British Columbia.

Adams helped Saint Christopher's to a second place finish in the Virginia State Championship in 2011 and was selected to the Southern States and Carolina Shootout All-Star teams. As a junior, Brehm scored 25 goals with six assists and was a second-team All-Conference and All-State honoree. Brehm is also a two-time Academic All-State nominee and was selected to the Denver Shootout All-Star game. Robinson is a two-time first team All-Star and Provincial MVP for St. Thomas More Collegiate.

Chandler and Connor Vanderbeek join High Point from Immaculata High School. Chandler has 57 goals, 25 assists and 140 ground balls in his first three years at Immaculata. He is a two-time All-Conference honoree in lacrosse and football and won the 2013 Immaculata Team Leadership Award. Connor is also a two-time All-Conference selection in lacrosse and football while tallying 69 goals, 30 assists and 95 ground balls. He was the 2013 Immaculata Offensive Player of the Year. Vogrig played for the Richmond Intermediate Box Lacrosse team where he set a club record with 69 goals and 119 points. He was named the Offensive Player of the Year and selected to the All-Star team.

Torpey added four defensemen to the team: Grady Hearn from Cockeysville, Md., Michael Lanahan of Bel Air, Md., Danny Lowe from Lake Forest, Ill. and Terrell Sands from Sebastian, Fla.

Hearn joins High Point from McDonough High School in the prestigious Maryland Independent Athletic Association (MIAA), where he helped the team to the 2013 semifinals. Lanahan also hails from an MIAA school, Calvert Hall, where has he been a three-year varsity player. In 2012 Lanahan and Calvert Hall were the No. 1 ranked high school team in the country and won the MIAA Championship. As a junior, Lanahan was an All-Metro selection. Lowe is a three-time All-Conference selection and two-time All-State honoree from Lake Forest High School. He has 49 goals, 27 assists and 350 ground balls in his three-year varsity career. Sands is an All-District and All-Region selection from saint Edwards School where he has 189 ground balls after three varsity seasons.
