No. 20 Wesleyan Shuts Down Farmingdale State

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (March 25) - Wesleyan, ranked 20th nationally in Division III, maintained its mastery over Farmingdale St. by improving to 8-0 all-time vs. the Rams with a 13-2 win today. In sweeping all the games played between the squads, Wesleyan has won by a minimum of five goals each time out and holds a 126-35 edge in goals.

Wesleyan scored the opening 12 goals in today's contest, carrying a 12-0 edge into the fourth quarter. Full-scale substitution by Wesleyan resulted in a 2-1 margin for Farmingdale in the final stanza. Wesleyan led 4-0 after 15 minutes of play and 7-0 at halftime. Leading the Cardinals with two goals and an assist was senior Aidan Daniell while junior Matt Prezioso raised his team-leading goal figure to 20 with a pair of markers. Eleven players registered a goal for the Cardinals in the contest.

Farmingdale got goals from freshman Patrick Cowcer, his third of the year, and junior Matt Streubel, his fourth.

Wesleyan had a 36-16 edge in total shots and won 13 of 19 faceoffs, led by senior Jasper Kubacek, who won each of his six attempts. In the Rams' net, freshman Nicholas Fasano made eight saves while playing the first half. Sophomore Thomas Fallon took over for the second half and added six stops. Cardinal starter senior Mark Simmons had four saves while playing the first three periods. Freshman Ted Bergman had four saves in the fourth quarter and was touched for both goals during his 8:45 of playing time. Freshman Evan Isaacs had no saves or goals against in his 6:15 at the end of the contest.

Up next for Wesleyan is a NESCAC battle with Colby in Waterville, Me. Sat., March 29. Farmingdale is back on the field Saturday as well, traveling to N.Y. Maritime for a Skyline conference match-up.

Middletown, Conn. - Farmingdale State fell, 13-2, in a non-conference game at Wesleyan on Tuesday afternoon. The Rams now stand at 4-3 on the season, while the Cardinals improved to 6-2.

Senior midfielder Aidan Daniell (Rye, NH) scored the first two goals of the game to quickly put Wesleyan ahead 2-0. Senior attack Graham Macnab (Winter Park, Fla.) scored an unassisted goal with 4:52 left in the first period and only 36 seconds later Niall Devaney (North Falmouth, Mass.) tallied a goal to increase the lead to 4-0.

Wesleyan added three second period goals and held Farmingdale State scoreless to take a 7-0 advantage into halftime.

Trailing 12-0 in the fourth period, freshman midfielder Patrick Cowcer (East Northport, N.Y.) put the Rams on the board with an unassisted score and junior midfielder Mike Strebel (East Northport, N.Y.) added the games final goal with 9:10 remaining as the Rams fell, 13-2.

Daniell and junior attack Matt Prezioso (New Canaan, Conn.) each had a game-high two goals for the Cardinals.

Farmingdale State next will play their first Skyline Conference game of the year as they travel to Maritime on Saturday, March 29th at 1:00 p.m.
