Gannon Drops Snow Match Against No. 8 Indiana (Pa.)

ERIE, Pa. - Gannon fell behind 7-0 and could never recover en route to an 18-8 loss Tuesday night against No. 8 Indiana (Pa.) at a snowy Gannon University Field.

IUP produced the first seven goals until Ashley Mozingo (Fallston, Md./Fallston) scored her second goal of the season 16:13 into the contest. After another Crimson Hawk tally, Kelsey Bright (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo) netted her fifth goal of the season to claw within 8-2 at the 8:46 mark of the first half.

Coached by former Gannon great Mindy Richmond, IUP responded with the final four goals of the half to assume a 12-2 edge at the intermission. The Crimson Hawks later extended their lead to 16-3 midway through the second half.

Gannon tried to rally with a 5-0 run, fueled by three consecutive goals from Kimberly Neagle (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn). Tessa Mitchell (Rush, N.Y./Rush Henrietta) and Paige Darby (Amherst, N.Y./Amherst Central) capped the run, before IUP scored two more times to account for the 18-8 final score.

Neagle led the Gannon offensive unit with three goals. Mitchell posted two scores. Christie Valentine (Friendship, Md./Annapolis Area Christian) and Bright dished out three and two assists, respectively. Margaret Maslyn (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan Academy) recorded nine saves in 46 minutes and 20 seconds of action.

Gannon saw its four-match win streak snapped, dropping to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). Indiana (Pa.) improved to 5-2 overall while remaining perfect in conference action at 3-0. The Lady Knights return to action Friday, March 28 at 15th-ranked Bloomsburg. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
