Shippen Breaks Scoring Record in AWCC Semifinals

BALTIMORE College of Notre Dame of Maryland sophomore midfielder Anne Shippen (Mount Airy, Md./Glenelg Country Day School) broke the College's single-season goals scored record Saturday morning in a 15-2 win over visiting Wells College in the Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference semifinal at Alumnae Field.

Shippen's third and final goal of the game, with 20:20 remaining in the first half, was her 72nd of the season, breaking the 2002 record of 71 by then-senior Angela Ruocco. Her 72 goals and 11 assists are good for 83 total points, also breaking the record of 79 set by Ruocco in 2002.

Ten players scored for the No. 1 seed Gators (11-4), who led 13-1 at halftime.

Shippen and junior midfielder Sara Breidenbaugh (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall High School) led all players with three goals each.

Junior midfielder Tina Money (Millington, Md./Queen Anne's County High School) added two goals and had game-highs of three assists, seven caused turnovers, six ground balls and five draw controls.

Express senior attacker Vicky Sherwood (Woodbury, Conn./Nonnewung High School) scored both goals for Wells (0-12).

The Gators will face No. 3 seed Chestnut Hill College, a 17-11 winner over No. 2 seed Hood College, in the AWCC Championship Game on Sunday, April 30, 2006 at 12 noon on Alumnae Field.
