Pruitt, Keeler Lead No. 6 Gettysburg Past No. 10 York

GETTYSBURG, Pa. Loren Pruitt and Shannon Keeler keyed sixth-ranked Gettysburg to a 10-4 victory over No. 10 York in a non-conference meeting Wednesday at Clark Field.

Pruitt (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) tied a season high with four goals all in the opening period - to lead the Gettysburg (6-1) offense. On the defensive side of the field, Keeler (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) tied a collegiate personal best with 10 saves, including nine in the opening period, to thwart the York (6-3) attack.

York came out firing with 15 shots in the opening period. Eric Mulford turned in the game's first tally on a free-position shot at 25:57 and after goals by Pruitt and senior Kelsey Markiewicz (Taconic, Conn./Berkshire School (Mass.)), the Spartan attacker turned in two more scores to hand her team a 3-2 lead with 13:30 left in the opening period.

Keeler and Pruitt took over the rest of the first half. The freshman goalie posted a pair of saves to set the stage for the senior attacker, who scored off a feed by junior Bridget Kenny (Gladstone, N.J./Bernads) to tie the game at 9:35.

Pruitt added two more goals to end the half, the first following a pass by Markiewicz and the second on a feed by sophomore Abby Baigelman (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck). Keeler helped keep the two-goal lead (5-3) going into the break with a pair of stops on shots by Sarah Castle and Mulford inside the three-minute mark.

Gettysburg dominated possession of the ball in the second half, holding York to four shots, while committing just two turnovers in the period. The Bullets ended the game on a 4-0 run with Kenny tossing in three scores and Markiewicz adding one.

Markiewicz and Kenny each finished with three goals and one assist. Sophomore Emily Tropsa (Darien, Conn./Darien) grabbed three draw controls and sophomore Christina Wright (Kingsville, Md./Fallston) logged four ground balls and one caused turnover.

Gettysburg held an edge in shots (25-19) and ground balls (13-11), while York held a 9-7 advantage in draw controls.

The Bullets travel to Muhlenberg for a Centennial Conference meeting on Saturday, March 29, at 1:00 p.m.
