Keuka Second-Half Comeback Sinks Hartwick

ONEONTA, NY- Hartwick led by a 5-3 margin at halftime, but Keuka scored all six of the game's second-half goals to come away with a 9-5 victory at Wright Stadium. The Storm improves to 2-1 with the win. The Hawks slip to 4-5 with the setback.

Five different Hawks tallied on the day, led by Ally Naja's (Glens Falls, NY/South Glens Falls) goal and assist. Ali Sisco (Kendall Park, NJ/South Brunswick), Lauren Rosenberg (Smithtown, NY/Commack), Meg Luce (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs), and Kia Ference (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) also scored for 'Wick. Emily Jweid (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) dished out an assist.

Hartwick was in command at the break following Luce and Ference goals with under eight minutes to play to break a 3-3 tie. The Storm, however, would register goals on six of its 10 shots in the second half to earn the victory.

Sisco opened the scoring early for Hartwick with a goal 27 seconds into the game. Jweid set the play up with her team-best fourteenth assist of the season.

Jennifer Burt, who registered a game-high four goals for Keuka, brought her team back even just over three minutes after Sisco's tally. Rosenberg put the Hawks up again at 20:53 with her team-leading twenty-third goal of the year but the Storm answered right back 1:35 later.

Naja and Keuka's Caroline Arancio traded goals 1:14 apart to make the score 3-3 with under eighteen minutes to go in the half.

The game remained deadlocked for nearly the next 10 minutes of action with Hartwick holding a 3-0 edge in shots over the timeframe. Finally Luce broke through on a free-position shot at 7:58. Ference added Hartwick' fifth score with an unassisted tally at 3:48 and 'Wick took the two-goal advantage into the half.

In the second half, Hartwick had two of the first three shots but both were off-target. Burt brought the Storm to within one with her second goal with 21:02. It set off a three-goal rally in a 1:37 span which gave the visitors the lead, 6-5.

Rosenberg was denied by Keuka goalie Korie Fitzgerald at the 16-minute mark which would have tied the game. Instead, the Storm notched a two-goal lead at 14:41 on leading scorer Taylor Smith's goal. Burt won the ensuing draw and later would add to the Storm's total with 13 minutes left. Kaycee Maguire closed out the scoring with 9:12 on the clock.

Over the final eight minutes, Hartwick would out-shoot Keuka 4-0. Only Rosenberg's shot was on goal, but Fitzgerald made her sixth and final save of the game.

Keuka had a narrow edge in shots in the contest, 20-18. The Hawks had more ground balls (26-23), and draws (9-7).

Caroline Stanford (Skaneateles, NY/Skaneateles) recorded team-highs of four ground balls and three caused turnovers for the Hawks. Morgan Galipeau (Bennington, VT/Mount Anthony Union) added three ground balls and three caused turnovers. Jweid had a team-best four draws.

Hartwick keeper Steph Luce (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) made four saves in cage. She also had three ground balls.

The Hawks are back in action in a pair of Empire 8 Conference games this weekend. 'Wick plays at Elmira on Friday, March 28 at 4:00 p.m. and at Utica the following day at 1:00 p.m.
