Penguins Break Program Records in Win Over DePauw

WHITTIER, Calif. - Nineteen Dominican University of California players recorded a point as the Penguins cruised to a 24-3 victory over DePauw University on Wednesday night at Whittier College.

It was another record night for the Penguins (6-1). One game after setting the program record for most goals scored in a single game with 23, Dominican set the mark yet again with 24 goals. The 21 goals is also the largest margin of victory in Dominican lacrosse history.

The Penguins scored in the first minute and led 3-0 within the first five minutes. An 8-1 first quarter lead stood at 12-1 by halftime and 20-2 by the end of the third quarter.

Grant Clifford led all players with four goals while Trevor Garner and Cam Wilkerson had three goals each. Cody Bernstein, Kiel Crowley-Galvin, Richard Guasco, Kevin Powers all scored two goals apiece and six others scored a goal. Guasco, Quintin Purdue, and Scott Vancil all scored the first goals of their college careers.

Reis Stanley only had to make one stop in the first half and earned his third consecutive victory. Sean Donohue made nine saves in nearly 25 minutes of action and Brooks Gjelsteen made his first save in a scoreless 5:15 of action.

Robert Lapp led the NCAA Division III Tigers (3-5) with two of the team's three goals.

Winners of its last four games, Dominican will remain in Southern California to face Whittier College on Friday, March 28 at 7:00 p.m. The Penguins will look to avenge last season's 9-8 loss to the Poets, which snapped a five-game winning streak.
