Honovich Nets Seven as Manhattanville Downs Old Westbury

PURCHASE, N.Y. - Casandra Honovich (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) led all players with seven goals and eight points overall as Manhattanville picked up its first victory of the season with a 17-8 triumph over SUNY Old Westbury in a non-conference match-up on a chilly Thursday afternoon at GoValiants.com Field.

PURCHASE, NY - Old Westbury held an early first half lead but were unable to overcome a halftime deficit as the Manhattanville Valiants won a 17-8 non-conference decision Thursday afternoon. Both teams now stand at 1-7 on the season.

Sara Bey extended her scoring streak to four games with her 11th goal of the season to give Old Westbury an early 1-0 lead with 25:55 remaining. Following a game-tying goal by Cassandra Honovich, Nicole Giambrone answered for Old Westbury with her second and third goals of the season for a 3-1 Panther lead with 14:59 showing on the clock. Brooke Marcimo sparked a 5-0 Manhattaville run to close out the half with a 6-3 Valiant advantage at the end of 30 minutes.

Giambrone tallied her first career hat trick by scoring her third goal of the game with 12:34 left in the second half to stop a 10-0 Manhattanville run. Following two Valiant scores, Maria Dischley added a pair of goals within an 11 second span to push her season total to nine goals. Bey then netted her second goal of the game at 6:43 to cap Old Westbury's 3-0 spurt. Manhattanville responded with three goals of their own before Bey ripped the net with 1:50 remaining for her team-leading 13th goal and second hat trick of the season.

Bey finished with five of Old Westbury's six draw controls on the day while Dischley and Meaghan Haber each recorded a team-best two ground balls. Jackie Cartagena made nine saves in net for Old Westbury.

Honovich led all scorers with seven goals for Manhattanville to go along with four ground balls as Sarah Dalsey grabbed 12 draw controls. Manhattanville owned a 31-19 advantage in shots as Kirsten Shaughnessy recorded five saves to earn the Valiants' win.
