Defense Helps Messiah Defeat Lebanon Valley

GRANTHAM, Pa. - Lebanon Valley struggled on extra-man opportunities and fell to Messiah on Saturday afternoon, 10-4.

The Dutchmen were just 1 for 7 in man-up situations with senior Matt Roupe slotting the lone goal off a feed from junior Matt Lubawski. The goal was one of three for Roupe on the day, leading the Valley in scoring. Classmate Jordan Mayr notched the other tally for LVC.

This one was all Messiah from start to finish as the Falcons came out of the gates with four straight goals and five of the six scores in the opening quarter, taking a 5-1 lead into the second. The teams traded a pair of goals in the second and the Valley went into the break, trailing 6-2.

The third began similar to how the game started as the Falcons broke it open with three straight to extend their lead to 9-2. Roupe scored a pair late in the third, but it wasn't enough as Messiah closed it out in the fourth with a 10-4 final.

The Dutchmen led in shots, 31-22, and the two teams tied in turnovers with 15 apiece and faceoffs with nine each. Senior Mike Moll suffered the loss, making seven saves, while the Falcons' Brooks Arnold also stopped seven shots to pick up the win.

Next up for the Valley is a return home to host Alvernia on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
