Big Second Half Takes West Chester by Millersville
WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Christine Kane had three of her game-high six goals in the decisive second half to lift No. 6 West Chester to a 20-5 victory over Millersville in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) women's lacrosse action on Saturday.
With the victory, the Golden Rams (15-2, 11-1 PSAC) earn the top seed in next week's conference tournament. The Marauders (7-10, 6-6 PSAC), who will be making their first playoff appearance since 2001, will be the No. 3 seed by virtue of Shippensburg's 18-8 win over IUP on Saturday.
Kane opened the scoring with back-to-back goals in the game's first 6 minutes, 40 seconds.
Gina DiDomenicis tallied her lone marker a minute later to stake the Golden Rams to a 3-0 lead.
Liz Richmond (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown), who finished the day with three goals, pulled the Marauders within 3-1 with an unassisted tally with 17:14 remaining in the opening half.
Anna Marmer (Pottstown, PA/Pottsgrove Area) netted her first of two goals 1 minute, 16 seconds into the second half to help Millersville close to within 6-3.
Stephanie Kienle got her first two of five second-half goals in the next 40 seconds to stretch the West Chester lead to five.
After Kane made it a 9-3 game, Richmond capped her seventh hat trick of the season with 24:08 to play.
Katelyn Martin bookended a 7-0 Golden Ram burst over a 10-minute span that gave West Chester a 16-4 lead with 12:50 to play.
Martin also had the third goal of the run to make it three Golden Rams who turned the trick.
Marmer capped the Marauder scoring, finishing a Joann Caminiti (North Wales, PA/North Penn) feed at the 10:10 mark before West Chester netted the game's final four goals, including Kienle just beating the final horn.
Millersville travels to fourth-ranked Lock Haven, the No. 2 seed, on Tuesday while the Red Raiders travel to West Chester in the other semifinals. Game times are to be determined.
