Cornell Drops Battle to Princeton in Overtime

PRINCETON, N.J. Cornell battled Princeton in a game that saw four lead changes, but ultimately fell to the Tigers in overtime, 10-7. The Big Red is now 4-5 overall and 1-2 in Ivy League play while Princeton improves to 6-3 overall and 2-1 against Ivy opponents.

Erin McMunn opened up scoring for Princeton just 1:17 into the game but Lindsay Toppe found the equalizer for the Big Red at 22:40. Rachel Moody then gave Cornell a 2-1 lead off a pass from Amanda D'Amico.

Mary Kate Svilli slipped one by Cornell goaltender Renee Poullott to tie the game at two and McMunn netted her second of the game to give the Tigers a one-goal lead 50 seconds later.

A duo of Big Red freshmen got the next tally, with Catherine Ellis burying a pass from Amie Dickson. Toppe had the next two, finding the back of the net and 1:07 later, capitalizing on a free-position shot.

Princeton's Sarah Lloyd cut the deficit to one with 7:53 left to play in the first half and Erin Slifer got the equalizer with 15 seconds left to go into halftime tied at 5.

Toppe scored her fourth goal of the game 2:06 into the second half but McMunn got the equalizer at 17:41 off a pass from Olivia Hompe. Ellis answered back to give the Big Red a 7-6 lead but Lloyd found the back of the net off a Hompe pass to knot the game at 7 with nine minutes left to play and send the game into overtime.

Anna Doherty finished a pass from Alexandra Bruno to give the Tigers their third lead of the game and McMunn scored 14 seconds later. Hompe found the back of the net from Lloyd with six seconds left to play in overtime to make the final score 10-7 in Princeton's favor.

The Tigers outshot the Big Red, 28-22, and held a 12-9 advantage in draw controls.

Erin McMunn led Princeton on offense with four goals and Olivia Hompe had one goal and five assists. Goaltender Annie Woehling had six saves.

Lindsay Toppe had four goals and Catherine Ellis scored two for the Big Red. Renee Poullott finished with nine saves in the crease.

Cornell returns to Schoellkopf Field April 5th as it plays host to Dartmouth at 12:00 p.m.
