Bentley Pulls Away from Saint Michael's in NE-10 Action

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Saint Michael's rallied to within three goals late in the third quarter during an eventual 12-6 loss to Bentley on Tuesday at Duffy Field. The Purple Knights fell to 2-6 overall and 2-3 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Falcons, who are receiving votes toward this week's USILA poll, are 4-3 and 4-1.

Senior Evan Antolino (Exeter, N.H./Exeter) scored twice for Saint Michael's, while classmates Cooper Quenneville (Shoreham, Vt./Gould Academy) and Asa Sargent (Ripton, Vt./Middlebury Union) both tacked on a goal and an assist. Quenneville was also 5 of 7 on face-offs.

Senior Chris Casserly (Kensington, N.H./Exeter) and first-year Tim Connor (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) both added their first goals of the season, while Casserly scooped five ground balls. Senior Andrew Landers (Manchester, Mass./Proctor Academy) made 11 saves, and junior Sean Curtin (Ledyard, Conn./Ledyard) and first-year Salvatore Loris (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) both caused three turnovers.

Sophomore Matt Brigham (Portsmouth, R.I./Portsmouth Abbey) had four goals and an assist for Bentley, and junior Cutler Dimond (Marblehead, Mass./Tabor Academy) notched a hat trick and a helper. Senior Josh Baker (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) recorded 14 stops.

Brigham scored the game's first goal with 8:22 remaining in the first quarter before Sargent responded 21 seconds later, but Dimond put Bentley back in front at 6:28 to begin a 4-0 run that included two goals in 39 seconds during the opening minute of the second period.

Down 5-1 at halftime, the Purple Knights quickly climbed back into the game following intermission. Casserly won the opening draw for the second half before completing an individual effort by scoring nine second into the period. Dimond made it a four-goal game again at 11:21, but Connor and Antolino scored nine seconds apart soon thereafter, and Saint Michael's was within 6-4 at the 10-minute mark. However, two quick Falcon strikes 14 ticks apart completed a flurry of four goals in a matter of 53 seconds, as Brigham put his team up 8-4 with 9:16 to go.

Antolino drew the Purple and Gold within three goals with 6:24 left in the third quarter, but Brigham countered nine seconds later, kicking off a stretch of Bentley scoring four of the last five tallies.

The Purple Knights host Pace University on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

COLCHESTER, Vt. Attackers Matt Brigham (Portsmouth, R.I./Portsmouth Abbey) and Cutler Dimond (Marblehead, Mass./Tabor Academy) led the offensive charge as Bentley defeated Saint Michael's 12-6 on Tuesday afternoon in a Northeast-10 match-up for its third straight victory.

Brigham matched his career-high with four goals and Dimond added three. Both added one assist to their big offensive days. Bentley also went 2-5 in man-up situations, with the goals coming from freshman John Wheeler (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) and junior Bobby Hinds (West Hartford, Conn./Conard).

Reigning NE-10 Goalie of the Week Josh Baker (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) made 14 saves as Bentley improves to 4-1 in the NE-10 and 4-3 overall.

The Falcons led 2-1 after the first quarter on goals by Brigham and Dimond. But they surged ahead in the second quarter, shutting out the Purple Knights 3-0. Wheeler scored a man-up goal, followed by Brigham's second of the day in the first 46 seconds of the quarter. Senior Nicolas Astarita (Bedford, N.H./Bishop Guertin) was also on target in the second quarter.

With Bentley leading 5-1 at halftime, Saint Michael's crept closer in the third quarter by scoring three of the first four goals. They made it a 6-4 game at the 10:00 mark on a goal by senior Evan Antolino.
