Kutztown Rally Falls Short at Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Kutztown has battled back and nearly erased lengthy deficits in two of its last three games. Despite a 10-8 setback at Shippensburg on Tuesday, the Golden Bears can hold their heads high after commanding the second half and finishing on a high note.

Kutztown out-scored Shippensburg 6-1 in the second half after trailing 9-2 at halftime. Shippensburg's only goal in the final 30 minutes was nine seconds into the half. The Golden Bears stood their ground and did not allow a goal for the remaining 29:51.

Taylor Stone (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon), Brielle Dickey (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) and Jillian Spencer (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) scored consecutive goals to cut the deficit to 10-5 midway through the second half. Dickey struck again for her second goal with 12:03 to play to bring KU within four.

Taylor Sandin (Freehold, NJ/Colts Neck) notched a hat-trick with 6:47 to play off an assist from Krystine Beodeker (Dingmans Ferry, PA/Delaware Valley), as the Golden Bears had all the momentum in their favor, but just not enough time. Beodeker scored with 51 seconds left on Kutztown's final shot of the game to close the game at 10-8 in favor of the Red Raiders.

Sandin scored on all three of her shot attempts to lead the Golden Bears offensively. Dickey was the only other multi-goal scorer for KU, as Beodeker notched a pair of assists.

Goalkeeper JoAnn McLaughlin (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape) picked up a team-high-tying five ground balls and made 11 saves. Emily Palmero also had five ground balls.

Three Red Raiders notched multi-goal games as Ally Frymoyer picked up the win in net with seven saves.

Kutztown returns home on Saturday, April 5 to take on Seton Hill at 1:00 p.m. at Keystone Field.
