Cardinals Rout the Blue Knights in GLIAC Action

URBANA, Ohio Wheeling Jesuit picked biggest win of the season on Wednesday on the road against Urbana, taming the Blue Knights 23-2 in GLIAC conference action.

The Cardinals improve to 5-3 overall and pick up their first conference win at 1-1 in the GLIAC.

"The girls just really played well as a team, from top to bottom. Offensively and defensively we played well, and we were did well in gaining possession off the draw controls" said WJU head coach Tim Florence. "We had the kind of game where we executed on what we have been working on in improving in transition and clearing, and that culminated in things working out well for us."

Elizabeth Hales had a blinder of a game for WJU, scoring seven goals and throwing six assists to lead all scorers. Hales took 12 shots on goal and picked up a caused turnover as well.

GLIAC Athlete of the Week Jessie Tufnell put in three goals for the Cards, as did Freshman Attacker Paige Plesich to add six more between the two.

Erin Underwood and senior Sara Fitzsimon added two goals each, and Olivia Krock, Danielle Kirby, Molly Parker, Shelby McClure, and Holly Deckert had a single goal for the Cardinals. Freshman Mia Gilardi scored her first goal in a WJU uniform as well, scoring unassisted with 13 minutes left in the game.

Maire Austin served all 60 minutes in-goal for the Cardinals, picking up the win with four saves and only letting two goals by.

WJU returns to GLIAC action on Friday when they travel to Tiffin.
