Centenary Downs Immaculata in CSAC Opener

IMMACULATA, Pa. - Centenary scored six of the final seven goals and defeated Immaculata 12-8 during the Cyclones' Colonial States Athletic Conference men's lacrosse opener on Wednesday.

Sophomores Trevor Krupinski (Lincoln Park, N.J./Boonton) and Anthony Biango (Highland Lakes, N.J./Vernon Twp.) both tallied four-point performances to lead the Centenary (3-5, 1-0 CSAC) offense. Krupinski scored four times, while Biango netted a trio of goals and dished out one assist.

Senior Steve Orsini (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.), sophomore Kenton Gottshall (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) and freshman Sam Nickelson (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) all scored a goal and handed out two assists.

Krupinski opened the scoring at the 12:25 mark of the first quarter and netted his second goal with just 15 ticks left on the clock to give Centenary a 4-2 lead after 15 minutes.

Immaculata scored the only two goals during the second quarter to force a tie at the half.

The Mighty Macs led 7-6, but Nickelson found Krupinski for his third goal and Biango fired in a score 47 seconds later to help Centenary retake the lead.

Sophomore Alex Malecki (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) netted a man-up goal early in the fourth quarter and Krupinski and Biango followed with goals as Centenary built a four-goal lead. Orsini capped the scoring with just under two minutes to play.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kevin Switzer (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) made 22 saves in net, earning his second victory in net, while Biango scooped up a team-high seven ground balls.

The Cyclones look to make it two-straight CSAC wins Saturday when they visit Gwynedd Mercy (12:00 pm).
