Shorter Drops Battle of the Hawks to Huntingdon

ROME--In a game that pitted Hawk against Hawk, Huntingdon came away victorious, 11-10, over Shorter, which drops to 4-7 on the season.

Huntingdon got on the board first as LaDarius Williams scored his first of four goals in the game. With 7:07 remaining in the first period, Shorter tied the game on a goal from Matt Kristiansen. Huntingdon closed out the frame on a 3-0 run, and took a 4-1 lead into the second quarter.

Kyle VanKauwenberg opened the second frame with back to back goals for the Hawks, to cut the lead to one. Huntingdon answered with back-to-back goals to make it a, 6-3, game. But, Shorter did give up, and scored three times during the final five minutes to tie the game at six heading into the intermission; James VandenBrink, Tyler Schott, and Tyler Kristiansen each netted goals for the Hawks.

VandenBrink scored the lone Shorter goal during the third period, while Huntingdon added three to regain the lead, 9-7.

In the final frame, the Hawks scored three times, but it wasn't enough as Williams netted two goals for Huntingdon to maintain the lead. During the period Zachery Dirkse, Matt Kristiansen, and Michael Myerson scored for Shorter.

Despite the loss, the Hawks outshot Huntingdon 44-30, held the advantage in ground balls 29-19, and won 14 of 24 face-offs.

JR Willers played the complete game for Shorter, making nine saves on twenty shots on goal. Huntingdon goalie, Fabien Gutierrez, made ten saves while also facing twenty shots in a complete game performance.

Shorter will be back in action Saturday, April 5, at 2:00 pm as Lees-McRae visits Ben Brady Field.
