No. 12 Queens Send the Wolves Scurrying

CHARLOTTE - Sophomore Noelle Allen netted a pair of goals, while fellow sophomore Alexis Cathcart led the Wolves with five ground balls in Newberry's 18-5 loss to the No. 12 Queens Royals at the Queens Sports Complex.

The Wolves (4-10, 2-2 SAC) fell behind the Royals (9-4, 4-0 SAC) 13-0 as the first half rolled along, with Newberry's first goal coming with 38 seconds remaining in the opening period. Newberry's first strike came from Allen (Lawrenceville, Ga.) as she scored her first of the night.

Newberry tallied once again in the first period as Cathcart (Spartanburg, S.C.) found the back of the net from a free position opportunity with 15 seconds left in the first half.

After Queens scored the final goal of the first half, the Wolves came out of halftime with a quick goal as sophomore Carly Marksberry (Lawrenceville, Ga.) assist on a goal by fellow sophomore Jessica Baxtrom (St. Leonard, Md.).

After three more Royals goals, Marksberry assisted for the second time on the night as Allen tallied her second goal of the game.

Newberry's final goal came as senior KerriAnn Barlage (Glen Burnie, Md.) scored her 40th goal of the season with 5:32 left in regulation.

A final Queens goal netted the Royals an 18-5 victory.

Cathcart led Newberry with five ground balls, while Barlage and junior Victoria Thomas (Manhattan, Kan.) each controlled two draws.

Allen finished with two goals, while Marksberry collected a pair of assists.

The Wolves return home Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. first draw against the Wingate Bulldogs.
