Brockport Defense Shines in Key SUNYAC Win at Oswego

Senior Colin King (Jamesville, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) picked up four ground balls and forced three turnovers for the Brockport lacrosse defensive unit, leading the Golden Eagles to an 8-3 victory Friday afternoon in a SUNYAC game at Oswego.

The score was tied at 2-2 after the first quarter and Brockport (4-5 overall, 1-1 SUNYAC) held a slim 3-2 lead at the halftime intermission break. Oswego (4-4, 0-1) tied it back up at 3-3 midway through the third quarter but Brockport scored the final five goals of the game and held the Lakers scoreless for the final 22 minutes of the contest to secure the victory.

Freshman Jake Giudice (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) scored with 1:12 left in the third quarter to regain the lead for the Golden Eagles.

Junior Justin Cook (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the final quarter giving Brockport a 6-3 lead before John Countryman (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) and Riley Austin (Rochester, NY/Eastridge) added late goals to seal the victory.

Countryman finished with three goals and Alex Austin (Rochester, NY/Trinity Pawling) added three assists. Bryon Palmer (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) had two assists and Steve Brissette (Marcellus, NY/Marcellus) added a goal to tie the score at 1-1 midway through the first quarter.

Freshman goalie Conor Nowak (Lakeview, NY/Eden) made eight saves to earn the goalie victory for the Golden Eagles.
