Big Second Half Run Pushes Lawrence Tech by Lourdes

Lawrence Tech scored nine of the first 10 goals in the second half to break open halftime tie on Friday afternoon and defeated Lourdes 18-12 in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action at Ottawa Hills High School.

The Gray Wolves and Blue Devils played to a 6-6 at halftime. Lourdes jumped out to a 3-1 lead midway through the first half before the Blue Devils battled back to take the lead. A goal by Faith Fisher (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) with just 16 seconds remaining before halftime allowed the Gray Wolves to tie the contest.

Lawrence Tech scored five times in the first 7:35 of the second half to take control and built a 15-7 lead with 13:07 to play in the game. Lourdes continued to battle, closing to within five, 17-12, on another Fisher goal with 1:45 remaining, but that would be as close as the Gray Wolves would get the rest of the way.

Fisher and Jessie Frost (Barberton, Ohio/Barberton H.S.) each scored four times for Lourdes with Frost also adding an assists. Katie Cerveny (Erie, Mich./Mason Senior H.S.) added a pair of second half tallies for the Gray Wolves while Allison Mazey (Barberton, Ohio/Barberton H.S.) and Molly Porterfield (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview H.S.) each added a goal as well.

Kadijah Kalo, Alyssa Melotick, and Paige Holcomb each scored five times for Lawrence Tech (4-8, 2-7 WHAC).

Amanda Kaczmarek (Berkey, Ohio/Evergreen H.S.) made nine saves in goal for Lourdes while Alyse Finley made three stops for the Blue Devils. Lawrence Tech outshot the Gray Wolves 37-19, including 17-15 on goal.

Lourdes (1-12, 0-8) will return to the field on Saturday, traveling to Fort Wayne, Ind. to face fourth-ranked Indiana Tech. The opening draw is slated for 5:00 p.m.
