Rangers Shut Down the Blue Jays

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Drew gave up the first goal of the game to freshman Addie Stang and the Blue Jays Saturday, but not much else. The visiting Rangers struck for 10 first-half goals and kept Elizabethtown to four shots in a 14-1 Landmark Conference victory at Wolf Field.

Coming off their best offensive showing of the season Wednesday, in which they put up 14 goals, the Blue Jays (0-10, 0-4 Landmark) wanted to keep the momentum going.

The first possession of the game hinted that they might. Mary Nell Donahue possessed the draw before Dana Robidoux hit Stang for a 1-0 lead just 40 seconds in, giving Elizabethtown its third lead in the last four games.

Drew would respond with nine goals in the next 15 minutes to deny the Jays' upset bid. Nikki Kleiman scored all four of her goals before the half and Morgan Mason added a hat trick.

Kleiman, who entered the game with 42 points, set up five Ranger goals for a nine-point afternoon. Conference leading scorer Krysta Cento collected a pair of goals and an assist.

E-town had limited chances in the first half to build upon its early goal. Donahue, Stang and Bri Rogers earned free position attempts, but could not connect.

Drew starting goalie Jadin James was able to get a piece of Donahue's with 3:06 left in the half for her only save of the afternoon.

The Rangers added to a 10-1 halftime lead with four more goals in the second. Anna Fiorini, Brooke Gagliano and Jess Johnson scored within the first 10 minutes of the period. Johnson capped the scoring with her second of the day at 15:50.

Elizabethtown had another decent day on draws, winning 7 of 17. Donahue and Stang each grabbed two, with Robidoux, Becky Graessle and Jessica Binnig each having one.

Krissy Pennell led the defense with a caused turnover and three ground balls, while Jays' goalie Beata Palosz stopped four shots to go along with five ground balls.

Tori Lauder took the cage for the final 15:50 stopping both shots that came her way.

Elizabethtown resumes its Landmark schedule next Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in Kings Point, N.Y., against Merchant Marine.
