Mount St. Vincent Suffers Conference Setback at St. Joseph's

Patchogue, N.Y. The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Lacrosse team dropped its third straight conference decision on Saturday afternoon with an 18-5 road loss at St. Joseph's-L.I. Junior Melina Mezzanotte (Shirley, N.Y.) recorded three points in the game and Laura Carr (Franklin Square, N.Y.) assisted on three goals in the game.

Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) gave the Dolphins and early 1-0 lead with her first of two goals in the game just 36 seconds into the tilt. She went on to score her second of the game and 17th of the season 5:10 later to tie the score at 2-2.

Following Fraser's second tally of the game, the Mount went without a goal until the 18:17 mark of the first half when Mezzanotte scored an unassisted goal. Over that span, St. Joseph's-L.I. scored six times to pull in front 8-2.

Over the final 17:24 of the first half, the Golden Eagles would outscore Mount Saint Vincent 7-1 to take a commanding 15-4 lead into the intermission. Katie Coyle (Yorktown, N.Y.) scored the lone Dolphin goal over that stretch, finishing off a feed from Mezzanotte with 4:06 left before the break.

The Dolphins were outshot 23-6 in the opening 30 minutes, with the Golden Eagles also holding the edge in draw controls 12-7 and groundballs 9-7.

Mezzanotte opened the scoring in the second half for the Dolphins with her second of the game at the 18:26 mark of the period. Carr picked up her third assist of the game on the goal, giving her a team-high nine helpers on the season.

Following the Mezzanotte marker, St. Joseph's-L.I. scored the final three goals of the contest over the final 11:07 of regulation. Caitlin Halloran picked up assists on two of the three goals for the Golden Eagles in the second half. Mezzanotte finished the game with two goals and an assist and picked up four groundballs. Fraser finished with two markers and Carr added three assists and a team-high six groundballs. Jessica McAllister (Floral Park, N.Y.) won a team-high five draw controls, with Carr winning four for the Mount.

The Golden Eagles were led by four goals and five points from Heather Ferchland and three goals and a pair of helpers from Ela Igdeler. Nicole Lyman led all players with six draw controls and six Golden Eagles picked up two groundballs.

Junior Kacie McCormack (Mahopac, N.Y.) took the loss in goal for the Dolphins after making 11 saves and collecting one groundball. She made seven stops for the Mount in the first half on Saturday. Colleen Fitzsimmons and Courtney Wickline split time in goal for the Golden Eagles, with Wickline stopping two shots in the second half.

For the game, Mount Saint Vincent was outshot 35-10 overall and 29-8 in shots on goal. The Golden Eagles also finished with the advantage in groundballs 22-10 and draw controls 14-9.

Saturday's loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 3-6 overall and to 1-3 in Skyline Conference play. Next up for the Dolphins is a road trip to Sage on April 10. Opening Draw is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
