Second-Half Surge Lifts No. 17 Fisher Past Utica

St. John Fisher scored six straight goals, including the first five of the second half, as the Cardinals surged past host Utica for an 11-5 win on Saturday. With the win, Fisher improves to 8-3 overall and 3-1 in the Empire 8 Conference, while Utica falls to 5-3, 1-2.

For the third straight game, Fisher's Taylor Hughes set an all-time record. The senior tallied three goals, bringing her career total to 193, setting a new Fisher record for goals in a career. One week ago today, Hughes became Fisher's all-time leader in points and on Thursday, she set a new record for career assists. Hughes has 279 points on 193 goals and 86 assists over her four-year career.

Fisher took the lead for good in the closing moments of the first half, as Erin Ward scored with 35 seconds left to give the Cardinals a 5-4 lead at the break. Fisher gained control early in the second half, scoring four goals in the opening 6:30 of the second period to pull away.

Samantha Barton and Hughes led the way for Fisher, tallying five points apiece. Barton registered four goals and one assist, while Hughes finished with three goals, two assists and four ground balls. Emily Bryerton added two goals, while Sierra Badger also scored in the win. Jordan Johnson and Lindsey Shoales each recorded one assist.

Freshman Abbie Reed led Fisher with five ground balls, while Logan Barnard and Jill Zerrillo each scooped up three.

Caroline Trpcevski stopped five shots in net to earn the win.

Fisher returns to action one week from today at 2:00 p.m. at Stevens.
