McDaniel Drops CC Battle to No. 7 Franklin & Marshall

WESTMINSTER, Md. Franklin & Marshall, ranked seventh in the latest coaches' poll, scored nine of the game's final 10 goals to register a 15-9 Centennial Conference lacrosse victory over McDaniel on Saturday.

Julia Jacobs (Stevensonville, Md./St. Mary's) led the Green Terror (6-4, 2-2 CC) with four goals.

Brittney Jorgenson paced the Diplomats (10-3, 4-0 CC) with four goals of her own, including three in the final run.

Trailing 8-6 after Jacobs and Allison Farrell (Towson, Md./Loch Raven) scored in the first 2:51 of the second half, Anastasia Mergner finished one of five Gace Saliba assists to draw the visitors within one with 26:15 to play.

Mergner then found Gabby Frank just 17 seconds later with the equalizer.

Yen Baker put Franklin & Marsahll in front with 23:47 to play, scoring with a player advantage before Emily D'Erasmo tallied 86 seconds later for a 10-8 lead.

Back-to-back Jorgenson tallies pushed the lead to four with 16:21 on the clock before Gabby Frank made it a 13-8 game with 15:34 showing.

A Jacobs free-position goal broke up the run 45 seconds later before Jorgenson and Casey Madden set the final margin with tallies in the final 12:46.

Monica Parcell (Prospect Park, Pa./Interboro) and Frank traded tallies nearly three minute before Farrell found Jacobs with 22:32 on the clock for a 2-1 lead.

Markers from Saliba and Christie Huidekoper turned the 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 advantage for the Diplomats with 18:27 showing in the first half.

Karli Zeps (Reisterstown, Md./Seton Keough) evened the game 28 seconds later before a pair of F&M goals put the visitors back on top.

Maggie Quinn (Crofton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) converted a free-position shot and Sam Barbeito (Wolfsville, Md./Middletown) finished off a pass from Danielle Entrot (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) to even the game once again with 11:51 to play in the opening stanza.

Mary Mitchell needed just 45 seconds to put the Diplomats back in front before Quinn hit Jacobs with 10:45 to play until intermission to deadlock the game at 6-all at the break.

McDaniel returns to action at home against No. 6 Gettysburg on Wednesday. Game time is 7:00 p.m.

McDaniel lit the scoreboard first on free position shot by Monica Parcell at 26:15 in the first. Gabby Frank tied the game three minutes later when she buried a pass from Siobhan Burke and the Green Terror went back on top before the Diplomats scored two straight and took a 3-2 edge at 18:27. Grace Saliba netted the first goal and Christie Huidekoper picked up the second for F&M.

Karli Zeps tied the game with a goal for McDaniel and the Diplomats countered with two of their own to go back on top, 5-3, at the midway point. Jorgenson picked up her first goal off a feed from Anastasia Mergner and Yen Baker tallied the second at 14:55. McDaniel answered with two of their to tie the game at 5-5 before Mary Mitchell struck on a free position to put the Diplomats up one, 6-5, with 11:06 left in the first. Julia Jacobs netted a goal at 10:45 and neither could find the net the remainder of the half to make it 6-6 at the break.

McDaniel quickly went up two, 8-6, with two goals in the first three minutes of the second stanza, but the Diplomats responded with seven unanswered goals to take the lead for good. Mergner started things off at 26:15 and fed Frank 17 seconds later to tie the game at 8-8. Baker put one through off a pass from Claire Jackson that put the Diplomats up for good and Grace Saliba fed Emily D'Erasmo and Jorgenson to make it 11-8 at 17:49.
