Schreiber Paces No. 17 Princeton to Win over Rutgers

Following a man-up Princeton goal, Rutgers regained the lead. After a caused turnover by senior M Nick DePaolera (Kinnelon, N.J.), redshirt senior M Anthony Terranova (Flemington, N.J.) found freshman A Christian Trasolini (New Hyde Park. N.J.) in transition to put RU up 2-1 with 7:08 to go in the first.

The Tigers scored to tie it up again, before Klimchak found Terranova and Rutgers went up, 3-2, at the 3:08 mark in the first period. Terranova was in the action again at the start of the second quarter, finding Murphy on a no-look pass in front of the cage, who scored to put RU up 4-2 with 12:34 to go in the half.

After Princeton trimmed Rutgers' lead back to one, DePaolera and senior M Steve DiGiovanni (Cranford, N.J.) each posted goals from distance to give the Scarlet Knights a 6-3 lead with 8:54 on the clock in the second quarter. The Tigers responded, scoring five-straight goals to end the half and led 8-6 at the break.

Rutgers came out of the midpoint scoring first as junior M Brian Goss (Arlington Heights, Ill.) found the back of the net at the 13:57 mark in the third quarter.

The Tigers scored the next goal before Murphy scored his second of the game after a dodge in front of the cage to bring Rutgers within one, 9-8, with 11:15 to go in the quarter.

Princeton pushed its lead to five, 13-8, following four-straight goals.

Rutgers was able to stop the run with two man-up goals, including one by redshirt senior M Matthew Klimchak (Clark, N.J.) and one by Murphy, cutting Princeton's lead to 13-10 with 10:55 remaining in the contest.

The Tigers pushed their lead to five with two-straight scores, before Nardella won a face-off and took it down the field, posting a goal of his own. Princeton held a 15-11 advantage with 8:20 on the clock.

Rutgers wouldn't be able to close the gap further and Princeton held the 15-11 lead for the victory.

The Scarlet Knights are back in action at home, taking on Big East foe Villanova on Saturday, April 12 at 7:00 p.m. The game is set for “Senior Night” and “Alumni Night.”
